Press Release: Frontier Power and Eos Energy Storage Announce Collaboration to Advance Long-Duration Energy Storage in the UK
April 15, 2025 — Warwickshire, UK and Edison, NJ, USA
Frontier Power Ltd. and Eos Energy Storage LLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on deploying up to 5GWh of energy storage projects across the United Kingdom, including long duration energy storage (LDES) applications for Ofgem’s Cap & Floor scheme. This collaboration aims to support the UK’s clean energy transition while strengthening trade relations between the US and UK.
Key Highlights of the Collaboration
Frontier Power is targeting multiple bids utilizing Eos’s zinc-based battery technology into Ofgem's LDES Cap & Floor scheme.
Eos’s Znyth™ batteries offer significant advantages, including safety, long life, and operation in harsh environments without air-conditioning.
Scaling up UK LDES projects using Eos technology could incentivize local manufacturing in the UK, potentially creating skilled jobs in the clean energy sector.
The collaboration also strengthens US-UK trade ties during a time of rising trade tensions, showcasing clean energy collaboration as a bridge for economic growth.
Strengthening US-UK Trade Relations
This collaboration highlights the potential for clean energy collaborations to enhance economic ties between the US and UK. By combining Frontier Power’s expertise in energy infrastructure with Eos’s cutting-edge American-made technology, the agreement underscores how innovation can foster mutual growth.
Unlocking Local Manufacturing Potential
The collaboration holds promise for expanding local manufacturing in the UK. Should significant LDES project volumes materialize using Eos technology, it could incentivize Eos to establish manufacturing operations in the UK, supporting domestic supply chains and green jobs.
Humza Malik, CEO of Frontier Power, commented:
"This agreement reflects Frontier Power’s commitment to driving innovation in clean energy. By working with Eos, we are building on our existing supplier collaborations to enable us to deploy LDES at utility scale and accelerate the transition to clean energy”.
Joe Mastrangelo, Eos Chief Executive Officer, commented:
“Our supply chain strategy was designed to be transportable. We can co-locate manufacturing capacity near customer demand and not only provide innovative energy storage, but sustainable jobs in regions that have demand for our technology. As that demand grows, both domestically and internationally, we’ll expand our manufacturing footprint, and we’re excited to partner with Frontier to execute on that vision in the UK market and beyond.”
Supporting Ofgem’s LDES Cap & Floor Scheme
Ofgem’s Cap & Floor scheme enables investments in long-duration storage technologies critical for grid stability and renewable integration.
