PRESS RELEASE
Frontier Power and Ethos Green Energy Announce Strategic Joint Development Agreement to Transform UK’s Energy Landscape
Collaboration to develop up to ~20 GWh of Long-Duration Energy Storage, ~5 GW of Solar and ~5GW Data Centres.
London, UK – April 15, 2025 – Frontier Power Limited (“Frontier”), a leading developer of energy infrastructure, and Ethos Green Energy Limited (“Ethos”), a pioneer in renewable energy solutions, today announced the signing of a landmark Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to accelerate the UK’s clean energy sector.
This collaboration will focus on advancing battery storage, solar energy, data centres, and co-location energy projects across the UK, with an initial emphasis on battery projects for Ofgem’s recently opened Window 1, Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) cap-and-floor (C&F) scheme.
Key Highlights
Under the agreement, Ethos will provide exclusive access to multiple connection points and land options to support Frontier’s development of energy projects.
With access to connection offers of more than 10GW, the collaboration is expected to enable a pipeline of up to 20 GWh of LDES battery storage projects, some of which will be for applications to Ofgem’s cap & floor scheme and others progressed via other routes, creating optionality for multi-GWh UK battery projects in the future.
The collaboration will also include the development of approximately 5 GW of solar energy projects.
The connection points will also enable approximately 5GW of data centre facilities at selected sites.
Looking ahead, Frontier and Ethos aim to create integrated “energy hubs” that combine renewable generation, energy storage, and large demand centres in a coordinated approach.
Strategic Focus on LDES for Energy Security
The first phase of the collaboration will target battery storage projects eligible for Ofgem’s LDES cap-and-floor (C&F) scheme using multiple technology solutions including flow and zinc-based batteries, both leading solutions for long duration energy storage. This C&F scheme is designed to provide revenue certainty for long-duration storage technologies that are critical for balancing renewable energy generation and ensuring grid stability.
By leveraging Ethos’ extensive pipeline of connection points and Frontier’s expertise in project development and financing of major Cap & Floor projects, the collaboration aims to position itself as the UK’s leading developer of LDES projects.
Driving Renewable Integration Through Solar and Data Centres
In addition to battery storage, the collaboration will develop solar projects alongside data centres at strategic locations. These initiatives will maximize the value of shared infrastructure while addressing growing demand for renewable energy-powered data solutions.
“Frontier Power has always been at the forefront of innovative energy solutions,” said Humza Malik, CEO of Frontier Power. “This collaboration with Ethos represents a significant step forward in addressing the UK’s energy transition challenges. By combining our expertise with Ethos’ we have an unparalleled portfolio of connection points and land options. Together with our supply chain partners, Invinity and Eos, we are poised to deliver utility scale transformative projects that will enhance energy security, reduce costs for consumers, and support the UK’s net-zero ambitions.”
Simon Wragg, CEO of Ethos Green Energy, commented: “At Ethos, our mission is to revolutionize the UK’s energy landscape through scalable renewable solutions. We saw a unique opportunity to drive transformational change in the energy sector, using our vision of Renewable Energy Hubs (REH’s) established by our sister company Pando Renewables. Partnering with Frontier allows us to turn the vision into reality. Together, we are committed to creating sustainable energy hubs that integrate generation, storage, and demand centres.”
